Position Summary We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Technical Author/Editor to join our engineering team. The primary focus of this role is to review, edit for format, and standardize existing aircraft test procedures. The successful candidate will ensure that all technical documentation is clear, concise, formatted correctly, and compliant with company and customer style guides and industry regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Document Review & Editing: Review previously generated and new aircraft test plans for technical accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness.
Formatting and Standardization: Format procedures to meet company and customer standards and regulatory requirements using established templates.
Style Guide Compliance: Apply Simplified Technical English (STE) principles to reduce ambiguity in procedures.
Collaboration with SMEs: Work closely with aeronautical engineers, flight test team, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to verify the accuracy of technical data prior to customer release.
Version Control: Maintain documentation repositories, ensuring proper version control and that the latest revisions are available to stakeholders. Experience of Siemens TeamCenter document control is an advantage, but is not vital
Illustration Integration: Ensure illustrations, schematics, and graphs are correctly integrated and referenced within the text.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in technical writing or editing, specifically within the aerospace or aviation industry.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Aviation Knowledge: Familiarity with aircraft manuals, test procedures, and terminology.
Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Word (including styles and formatting.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional proofreading skills with the ability to identify subtle inconsistencies in complex documents.
Desired Skills and Competencies
Experience with regulatory guidelines (FAA, EASA).
Knowledge of ATA 100 or S1000D documentation standards.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Knowledge of ASD-STE100 (Simplified Technical English).
